This is an open inviation to all club members and friends to consider joining us on possible future club outings, we are looking at visiting Leeds Armoury Museum which is very interesting in its own right, but for us does have the added appeal of having archery equipment and related information. We could also consider visiting Bow Plus near Whitchurch, which is an archery supplier, but also has an indoor archery simulator, so you can shoot at wild animals for instance, without causing them any harm, several members would enjoy a short competition using this interesting medium. Visits to other clubs can also be eye openers to various forms of archery, In Frodsham we have the ability to try out field archery, shooting at various types of targets in the woods at different distances and some tricky situation between the trees!!!

On Saturday night several members attended the annual Christmas dinner dance at the Barbacoa, we were led upstairs to a newly refurbished Blundell Room (aptly named after us methinks) drinks were ordered, the wine flowed and then the three course dinner started, with a choice of three sweets, melon, soup or smokey ribs covered in sauce, all ordered in advance to ensure you got your choices. The main course was again another difficult choice of four selections, the roast dinner appearing to be the most popular. The meal was finished off with a choice of sweets ranging from Xmas pud of course, to Fruit Berry Creme Brulee. Coffee and mints to cleanse and soothe the pallet. Then the onset of the entertainment started to be cranked up with a short disco followed by the caberet session of the Grey Twins who gave a varied rendition of popular and smooth songs. The night was finished off with a trip down the stairs to relax in the quieter lounge bar. A good night for all including Dave and Fran, Peter and Margery, Shaaron and Pauline,Neil and Nicola, Steve and Frank, Cathy and Steve B, with Jim and Julie who did all the good work in promoting and running this event, to which we owe them our thanks.
28th November 2007
Jim, Shaaron, Pauline and Steve were invited to the annual general meeting of the Sefton Sports Council, were after the formal side of the meeting we Were given a very enlightenting and heartening talk by Dave Brooks of Merseyside Fire Service, who talked about the huge plans and investment being made to stage the World Firefighter Games next year in August 2008. Blundellsands Archers are proud to be involved in hosting the Archery competition for this event, but we, and the games in general, need many more volunteers. So if you are retired, work part time, or will be available for a few hours on the run up to, and including the bank holiday, please register your intentions now. There will be many ways you could help, could you offer accommodation to the many firefighters from around the world! do you speak a foreign language, do you know Liverpool and surrounding districts, can you drive contestants around to the many different venues or are you keen on another sport and would like to help. Then please contact the Merseyside Fire Service by phone, or register your interest on the website now.

- Blundellsands Archers recently completed its 2007 Annual Handicap Outdoor Tournament, the day was a great success, and photos of the winners can be found on this website. Approximately twenty five members took part with a number of supporters and visitors watching. A Warwick round was shot by all, this consists of two dozen arrows at fifty yards and the two dozen at forty yards, with the juniors obviously doing a Junior Warwick consisting of two dozen arrows at forty yards and then two dozen at thirty yards. Members who had not submitted three scores during the season were allowed to take part, but not receive the club trophy's, as it is a Handicap shoot. Also this year, because of the high number of new members in the club, we allowed them to shoot against themselves, and the winners were given special medals. The catering was excellent as usual, expertly done by Julie Kavanagh, Catherine Delenda and Bernie Mason, and our sincere thanks to all three of them.

NEW MEMBERS ie those with less than six months membership will be in their own novice catergory, and will be competing only against any other new members that enter. There are currently twenty two new members that joined this year, so get your names down for the club shoot and see how you measure up.

- Today we start a new training course and We welcome the following new trainees, Erin and her father Alan. Mrs Leigh S. and her daughter Katie, with son. Richie Hayes. Keir, Father and son Duane and Paddy C. Helen B. and her two sons Timothy and Nicholas. We hope they enjoy the course and stay on to become full members
The Bow and Arrow was the first mechanical weapon used by man. In its ancient past, archery was a means of survival, aggression, or defence. But today, it has become a universally enjoyed sport, limitless in its capacity to be performed by people of all ages and abilities.
Blundellsands Archers was first established at Blundellsands under the Presidency of Colonel Blundell of Crosby Hall in 1876. They started with upwards of seventy members. Their first annual prize meeting was held on the 26th of August of that year. A note with the report says "a strong wind, varied at short intervals with showers of rain". Nothing seems to have changed with the British weather after all those years. With the exception of a few years during the 2nd World War the club has remained active in the sport of archery.
This sport can be enjoyed by a wide variety of people of all ages and abilities, but for safety reasons we normally only allow children above ten years of age, unless their parent is also a member. Under our child protection policy, parents are responsible for their children at all times. People with abilities or disabilities, are most welcome to attend and try archery at our club on one of our beginner courses.
We are licensed by the Grand National Archery Society and registered with the local Licensing Authority for the activities listed above
